GDC 2014: Halfbrick presents Bears vs. Art puzzle
At the GDC 2014 conference currently taking place in San Francisco, the authors of Jetpack Joyride presented a game about a bear and art galleries.
The project is called Bears vs. Art. This is a puzzle that will be distributed according to the free-to-play model. The mechanics of the game resemble the game principles of Quell Reflect.
Each level in the game is a small museum/gallery. The player’s task is to destroy all the paintings at the level with the help of the main character – a brown bear, scatter visitors and at the same time not fall into a trap and not be noticed by the guards.
The bear is moved by the player using swipes. The difficulty lies in the fact that he, like the jellies in Jelly Splash, stops only at the moment when he bumps into a wall. A limited number of moves or time is given to complete each level.
The monetization of the project is based on a system that can be called “wait-or-pay”. The game has a strip with energy that is spent on completing levels. When the “charge” comes to an end, the player must either take a break or pay to continue playing further.
The game has already been released in Australia and Canada, a worldwide release, according to Phil Larson from Halfbrick, is also just around the corner.
