Valve reaches agreement with Indonesian government to unblock Steam and its games

Valve has complied with Indonesian requirements, unblocking its products in the country. However, other services like the Epic Games Store and EA’s Origin remain unavailable.

The information was spotted by Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad. Valve has registered with Kominfo, Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

As a result, the local government lifted the ban on Steam, CS:GO, and Dota 2. Kominfo also noted that PayPal and Yahoo services were also unbanned.

But a few services from other major game companies, including EGS and Origin, are still blocked. Neither of these companies have announced their plans to comply with new regulations.

Indonesia banned access to several global services last week. This happened after companies failed to register with Kominfo. It could also give the authorities access to Indonesian user’s personal data.
