Apple wins reprieve from making changes to App Store as appeals court pauses previous order
An appeals court has granted Apple’s request to put the previous order on pause. It means that the company doesn’t have to make changes to its App Store policy, which would let developers add links to third-party payment solutions.
Apple had to comply with the court’s order by December 9. However, the appeals court halted the ruling on Wednesday, Bloomberg reported.
This decision allows Apple to not make any changes to the App Store’s current business model until its appeal is resolved, which could take at least a year. Back in September, Tim Cook noted that the whole process might take up to five years.
“Our concern is that these changes would have created new privacy and security risks, and disrupted the user experience customers love about the App Store,” the company said.
Last week, Apple also revealed that it still considers collecting commissions from IAPs even if transactions are made outside the App Store.
