Unity has bought the Bolt visual programming plugin
The authors of the Unity engine have acquired the Bolt visual programming tool. It is compatible with GameObject, unlike the similar software of the company itself.
Ludiq developer sold his project for an undisclosed amount. Other details of the transaction are also not disclosed.
Bolt was previously a third-party plugin for the Unity editor, fully compatible with the engine’s source code. Now it will be included in the set of official products of the company.
It is important to note: Unity’s own visual programming tool, Visual Scripting, works only with DOTS projects. Bolt is also compatible with GameObject containers. According to the Telegram channel “Gamedev, which we deserved”, it was more profitable for Unity to buy a ready-made plugin than to create a project with GameObject support from scratch.
Ludiq released its tool in 2017. It allows you to create games on Unity without writing code, using special visual maps and macros.
You can now purchase the Bolt 1 version for $70. The Bolt 2 plugin is getting ready for release. It will be available for free to anyone who buys the first version before May 31.
