Digi-Capital: the mobile market will become the largest segment of the gaming industry by 2018
The mobile market will reach the size of $45 billion by 2018 and will overtake the rest of the segments of the gaming industry. This is reported by the Venturebeat resource with reference to the forecast of the analytical company Digi-Capital.
The volume of the gaming market this year will be $88 billion. By 2018, this figure will grow to $110 billion. The growth of the mobile segment of the gaming industry will be the most significant, according to analysts at Digi-Capital. It will increase by 15% annually. In 2015, it accounted for $29 billion. By 2018, its volume will grow to $45 billion.
“In 2015, for every $10 gamers spend, $3 is on mobile games; by 2018, these figures will grow to $4 for every $10,” says Tim Merel, founder and managing director of Digi-Capital.
The Asian part of the mobile gaming market is ahead of both Europe and North America in terms of revenue since 2013. Digi-Capital analysts believe that this state of affairs will continue. Moreover, by 2018, more than half of the revenue from mobile games will be accounted for by the Asian market.
Digi-Capital analysts are confident that the top places in the global mobile gaming charts will remain with the industry leaders. This means that Clash of Clans, Candy Crush Saga and Game of War will continue to earn their hundreds of millions.
Tim Merel claims that this is “great for the leaders of gaming companies and for their shareholders.” But indie players and small studios in this situation will not have the sweetest life.
Interestingly, a similar forecast – about the size of the gaming market – was recently made by Newzoo. She is much more optimistic: her analysts say that in 2015 this volume will reach $91.6 billion.
