App Annie: Southeast Asia prefers Google Play
The most popular store in Southeast Asia is Google Play. This is reported by the analytical resource App Annie based on the results of its research.
Users from this region download apps from the Google store 4 times more often than from the Apple App Store. Why? It’s about the installation base. There are much more Android devices in Southeast Asia than there are iOS devices.

App Annie analysts report that local users prefer games to all other mobile applications.

The highest growth rates are in Vietnam (the number of downloads increased by 95%), followed by Thailand and the Philippines (25%). Malaysia has stabilized so far, download rates in the country are not growing.
As for revenue, the region has yet to unlock its potential. Now it lags far behind its neighbors – Japan, China and South Korea. Even the total revenue of the five most “profitable” countries, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam, is almost 4 times less than in South Korea alone.
