App Annie: Russia is on the 9th place in terms of revenue from the App Store and on the 10th place in terms of revenue from Google Play in the world
The other day, App Annie summed up the results of the year in the App Annie Index: 2014 Retrospective study. From it, you can find out not only what place Russia occupies in terms of revenue and downloads in the world, but also how the market for mobile applications and games as a whole has changed over the past year. We present his squeeze.
Let’s start with the important, but not the most interesting.
1. The difference in downloads between Google Play and the App Store has increased significantly. Last year, the number of downloads from the official Android store was 60% more than from the App Store.
2. If we talk about monetization, then over the past year the difference between the stores remained at the same level. However, it has grown significantly in both markets. Google Play revenues have almost reached the level of App Store revenues for 2013.
3. In terms of mobile revenue, the BRIC markets (Brazil, China, India and Russia) have grown especially well. Over the year, the total revenues of these regions increased 2.3 times. They also showed the most active growth in downloads – by 1.4 times. However, the leading markets of Western Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Great Britain) turned out to be slightly higher in terms of income. The absolute leader in revenue and downloads, although with much lower growth rates, is a group that includes Japan, South Korea and the United States.
4. App Annie this time made the Top 10 most downloaded mobile games “based on”. It is curious that the game about Kardashian was not included here, and the project released in 2013 was in the first place.
5. The company’s analysts have introduced a new gaming term – super casual. We are talking, of course, about minimalistic games, which showed themselves very clearly last year. As can be seen from the graph below, at least one such game was included in the Top 10 downloads almost every month of 2014.
6. The most downloaded game of 2014 turned out to be, without surprises, Candy Crush Saga, but in second place we found Subway Surfers.
7. It’s funny, but if we talk about game publishers leading in the number of downloads, then the picture, if compared with the top games, is seriously different. It is quite understandable that many of them score high numbers on “packages”, and not on one game.
8. The highest-grossing game of the year remains Clash of Clans. Moreover, as far as we know, the gap between it and its competitors is very serious. The main newcomer is Brave Frontier. It is also worth noting the absolutely amazing commercial success of Disney Tsum Tsum
9. According to publishers, the picture is as follows: the world’s leading three, if memory serves us correctly, has not changed since the previous year, but Tencent has risen to fifth place in the top ten, and Machine Zone has also appeared.

The original material, which can be found here, also lists the top games/apps and publishers by downloads/revenue. For obvious reasons, we will not give all of them, but we want to draw attention to the Russian market.
According to downloads in Russia, My Talking Tome was in the first place. Of the Russian games in the top there is only Shadow Fight 2 from Nekki.
As for the leading download companies in Russia, we have Gameloft, Rovio and EA in the Top 3. From domestic companies – only ZeptoLab.
In terms of income in Russia, Clash of Clans is in the lead. In eighth place, “Evolution” from Mail.Ru Group.
According to the income of companies, three companies with “Russian roots” are among the leaders: Game Insight is on the 7th position, Mail.Ru Group is on the 9th place, and Social Quantum is on the 10th.
Well, the most interesting thing: according to the results of 2014, Russia is on the 5th place in the world in terms of the number of downloads and on the 9th place in terms of revenue from iOS.
In terms of downloads from Google Play, Russia is on the 4th position, in terms of revenue – on the 10th position.
Actually, everything.
