American iOS Gaming Market for the Week (May 20 – May 26)

The latest information on the leaders of the American iPhone game market for the week (May 20 – 26) from Distimo: top free, paid, and grossing apps all in one article.

We remind you that Distimo publishes cumulative data on app downloads and earnings FOR THE WEEK with a lag of one week. Usually, we only cover the top three positions in the Free, Paid, and Grossing charts on the iPhone. We also pay attention to large jumps in positions (such as a game jumping up 1000 "spots") and interesting newcomers.

Top Free Apps

The 21st week of 2013 saw many newcomers in the top rankings. But let's go in order.

First place continues to be held firmly by King: Candy Crush Saga is not yet losing downloads. However, the rest of the podium features new faces. Firstly, there's Fast & Furious 6: The Game by Kabam, which appeared on the market just a week ago (relative to the reviewed date). A good clone by a good team is an excellent combination. Secondly, there's the brutal Little Dentist by George CL, a game about dental practice. Players act as a dentist, pulling and treating teeth. If not for its Pixar-like cartoon graphics, the game could easily be a genuine thriller.

In fourth place is the very specific Guncrafter by Naquatic LLC. The game uses a Minecraft-like style but offers different gameplay. Players need to build weapons out of blocks and test their functionality by shooting at objects on maps.

Starting right from the fifth position is Tetris® Blitz by Electronic Arts. It's hard to call this project Tetris in the traditional sense, but it manages to be an engaging "cup" game. The game receives a unique flavor from its "cliché" music, which constantly makes it feel like a bear with a balalaika could jump out any second.

The temporary price drop of Angry Birds Space allowed the Finnish project to leap straight to the 8th position.

Also making its debut in the top ten is a newcomer named Word Rush by Palm Desert Studios. This puzzle, among a sea of similar projects, stands out with its enhanced social features.

Top Paid Apps

The top three haven't changed much here. Heads Up! takes the first position. Minecraft – Pocket Edition and Survivalcraft switched places. That's about it.

However, in fourth place, we find a newcomer – Downhill Supreme by Reinholds Berzins, ideologically very close to Finland's Elasto Mania but much more dynamic. The essence of the game is controlling a biker speeding downhill. The goal is to prevent him from falling.

FIFA SOCCER 13 by EA Sports appeared in the top paid charts after a $4 price cut.

Yes, the domestic Cut the Rope: Time Travel has also returned to the chart.

Top Grossing Apps

The top three remain unchanged. Candy Crush Saga is in first place, Clash of Clans in second, and MARVEL War of Heroes in third.

Minecraft – Pocket Edition is in fourth place.

Interestingly, there's a curious mismatch between the grossing and paid charts. In the paid chart, as you remember, Heads Up! is in first place, but in the grossing chart, it stands at 33rd. Survivalcraft, in third place in top paid, notably surpasses Warner Bros.'s creation in top grossing, landing at 20th place. In between them in the paid category is Minecraft, which holds the 4th position in top grossing.
