The American Google Play gaming market for the week (06.05 – 12.05)
The latest information on the leaders of the American Google Play games market for the week from Distimo: tops of free, paid and cash applications in one material.
Yesterday there was a lot of material on the leaders of the American iPhone market, today we are presenting a similar version on the Google Play market. We remind you that the total data is presented not for the last week, but for the week before last, since Distimo publishes information with a one-week lag. In other words, for example, the data for the current week will be known in the first week of June.
Top Free Apps
Candy Crush Saga has the first place in downloads. “Delicious” match-3, as you can see, is almost equally loved, both on iOS and on Google Play. And here the main question is, how long will the game be able to keep the attention of the entire gaming market on itself? Will King have enough churning out levels and bonuses to retain a user audience?
Second place for Subway Surfers from Kiloo. We wrote in detail about the reasons for the success of this game in a separate article. It remains only to add that its developers now continue to rely on content. Every month new characters and new locations appear in the game. If the last time you launched the game in March, in May you risk not recognizing it.
The third position is for the newcomer – the social version of Angry Birds from Rovio – Angry Birds Friends. Bonuses, tournaments, new levels – not much was needed to revive the mobile classics. However, it seems to us that many are already tired of this game mechanics. The brand is definitely working properly, but the following months will show how interesting this gameplay is to users.
Outside of the troika, everything is a little more curious:
As in the case of Rovio, the second part of Temple Run is regularly dragged by the brand. It is no longer the best runner from a married couple in terms of downloads is in fourth position.
Pie Labs, which for some strange reason called its iPhone lock Screen Theme app a game, is showing good growth in terms of downloads. The “Game” in the 19th week of this year jumped 100 positions straight up into the top 10 and, judging by the latest App Annie data, continues to be there.
Electronic Arts Inc, with an eye on the success of Candy Crush Saga, is trying to build on the success of Bejeweled Blitz. In our opinion, this PopCap project requires at least more diversity in terms of content. So far, it floats only on the traffic from EA. In other words, it is difficult to explain the unexpected jump of the project by 185 positions up to the tenth place.
Top Paid Apps
Here the first (and inexplicable for us) place is occupied by Minecraft – Pocket Edition. Not the cheapest game about the creation of worlds and creativity and does not think to slow down on paid downloads.
In the second position – released back in October, Need for Speed Most Wanted. The game periodically takes off after lowering the price from $4.99 to $0.99, and crashes out of the top 10 after a reverse increase. Third place for another classic project – Where’s My Water? from Disney.
It should be noted that in the first weeks after the release, the Punch Quest runner from Noodlecake Studios Inc. performed well. The game on paid downloads rose to 8th place. However, she did not last long in the top ten. As of today (May 21) she is already on the 35th place in the gaming top. Recall that the iOS version of Punch Quest is one of the best games of 2012 according to App2Top.ru .
By the way, after the successful release of Robot Unicorn Attack 2 on iOS, the first part got into the top ten paid Google Play games. This confirms the theory of “mobile markets as communicating channels”.
Top Cash Register applications
The box office charts on iOS and Google are related mainly by a single leader – Candy Crush Saga. Also, both there and there, the top three “champions” includes MARVEL War of Heroes from Mobage. The rest of the tops are significantly different. For example, CSR Racing, which has long been out of the top grossing on the App Store, takes third place on Google Play. There is also a more noticeable aggressive presence in the American market of Mobage (aka DeNA): the company has as many as three games in the box office top (mentioned War of Heroes, as well as Rage of Bahamut and Blood Brothers). There was a place here and GREE is in the tenth position Crime City.
However, the question does not leave us: would the box office of the American top Google Play be so much different from the App Store if Supercell and Warner Bros. released their games on Android?
