Apple has lost the American smartphone market
According to a study by Kantar Worldpanel, over the last quarter (December – February), the interest of American consumers in Android-based devices exceeded the share of the iPhone. Now the former account for more than half (51.2%) of sales of all smartphones.
Thus, the sales figures of “apple” devices, compared to last year, decreased by 3.5%. The figure is not so critical to talk about negative dynamics, but it was enough to shift to second place.
The American smartphone market was the only one where Apple firmly held a leading position. Now iOS owns a share of 43.5% on it, compared to 51.2% for Android. In the UK market, this figure is twice as high (29.0% for iOS versus 58.3% for Android). The distance in the demand of German consumers to the devices of these platforms is maximum (18.7% vs. 71.0%).
The share of Windows Phone, on the contrary, has grown significantly: in the American market it reached 4.1%, almost 7% – in the UK and Germany, and more than 13% – in Italy. The Microsoft platform, which does not pose a threat to major market players, continues to displace weaker ones. So, for example, BB lost 11.7% of the market in the UK market, and Symbian lost 13.9% in the Italian market.
