Apple introduces registration on AppStore.com

Apple is adding new functionality for developers of Apple content: each app will soon have a direct, elegant link on the AppStore.com domain.

Typically, a direct link to an app looks like this: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ocarina/id293053479?mt=8

This is fine when you navigate to the app or company page via a hyperlink. Or, alternatively, you tap an icon in an app, and it takes you straight to the App Store. But when it comes to manually typing the address, issues arise. To resolve this, Apple decided to allow the registration of app and company addresses on the AppStore.com domain.

Now, you can make a direct link to your app in the App Store look like this:

Company name:

http://appstore.com/ for example, http://appstore.com/smule

App name:

http://appstore.com/ for example, http://appstore.com/ocarina

An app by a specific company:

http://appstore.com// for example, http://appstore.com/smule/ocarina

However, there are a couple of nuances. In some cases, developers might not obtain the desired addresses. In conflicting cases, the usual long address will remain for the app. Additionally, for certain queries, search results may be displayed instead of a specific app.

TechCrunch provided the following example: if you enter appstore.com/airhockey, you get a whole list of apps related to that entertainment type. This solution not only spares Apple from conflicts and errors but also might partially address the issue of low app visibility in the store.

At the moment, this functionality is not active.
