The Indian mobile app market has become one of the largest in the world
The number of downloads from Google Play in India has increased by 400% over the past year. Users of the country that gave the world the Rig Veda and the Mahabharata have installed more apps in the last six months alone than in the previous three years combined.
This was officially announced a couple of days ago by the search company in its Android blog. However, given the low number of downloads a year ago and the general skeptical attitude towards the Indian market (it is well known that Indians are not used to paying, which is the reason for the poverty of the general population and, as a result, the low level of smartphone penetration), this would not be an event if not for one “but”.
As a result of this growth, the Indian market has become the fourth in the world in terms of the number of downloads. And it’s a sin not to monetize it. The only question is how.
To help developers with this, Google has launched a sales support service in India. So, starting from October 18, Indian developers can sell applications, IAP and subscriptions, receiving monthly payments from Google Play to local bank accounts.
