The mobile market is growing at the expense of PCs
The growth of the mobile gaming industry weakens the demand for social and casual PC games, Cowen reports & Company.
A study conducted by Cowen specialists & Company, shows that in September, Japanese giants DeNA and GREE strengthened their positions in the top twenty on the Android platform, while Electronic Arts performed well on the iPhone and iPad markets. In turn, Zynga and Disney almost completely flew out of the iOS tops.
DeNA and GREE account for 30 projects in the top twenty Android. DeNA’s Rage of Bahamut butler has been sitting at the top of the box office top on Google Play for five months. He also held a similar position on the iPhone for the whole of September.
The independent Supercell development team also performed well in September. Her Clash of Clans topped the box office top for iPad for the second month after its release. The game also has good performance on the iPhone – it has not been out of the top five box office for a month.
At the same time, the indicators of social and casual projects on the PC are falling. However, against the background of the high-profile results of the FarmVille 2 game, which took over the 6.5 million DAU, this may not be so noticeable. As noted in Cowen & For example, the DAU of the top ten publishers on Facebook grew by only 0.8%, and their total MAU decreased by 1.8% altogether.
Analysts associate these not the most positive PC indicators with the growth of the mobile segment. “We are sure that the demand for social and causal games on PC is falling due to the increased attention to mobile games,” said Doug Creutz, one of Cowen’s specialists & Company.
