The 2026 releases based on popular non-gaming IPs have already generated over $900 million on PC and consoles, according to analytics

The overwhelming majority of the total sum came from just six titles.

007 First Light

The relevant figures were shared by the company Alinea Analytics. Their statistics accounted for the gross revenue of games released in 2026, which were created based on well-known, originally non-gaming franchises such as Marvel and Star Wars. This refers specifically to earnings from Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series, excluding other platforms— with their inclusion, the numbers would be even higher.

According to analysts, the main hit of 2026 was 007 First Light, which alone generated $309.8 million.

Next in the top six were LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight ($164.9 million), Marvel’s Wolverine ($148.1 million), Halloween: The Game ($64.8 million), Star Wars Zero Company ($49.8 million), and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls ($49.7 million).

However, analysts emphasized that using a well-known IP is not a guarantee of success. In their opinion, developers should not rely solely on this to hope for massive revenue or believe they will replicate the results of either 007 First Light or, indeed, the hugely popular Hogwarts Legacy, which was released in 2023.

“These are isolated exceptions and should not serve as a benchmark. There is not enough room in the market for this many mega-hits. Therefore, if you consider these incredible successes as the norm, you will end up disappointed even with a game selling a million copies,” wrote Alinea Analytics.
