Americans are increasingly engaging in online gambling, study finds
Over the past decade, there has been an increase in interest in online gambling among U.S. residents, according to a Gallup survey. A total of 2,200 American adults participated in the survey.
As reported by Gallup, in 2026, the percentage of Americans engaging in online gambling increased to 4% compared to 3% in 2016. Although this is a relatively small portion, it is the only segment that showed growth within the overall gambling sector.
The percentage of Americans interested in gambling in general (both online and offline) declined over the decade from 64% to 45%. Specifically, the proportion of visitors to land-based casinos decreased from 26% to 14%. Men reported to Gallup about their gambling interest more often than women — 49% compared to 40%.
Gallup noted that the decline in attendance at land-based casinos could be partially explained by the rise in online gambling; however, the difference in figures is too large to fully account for the decrease.
