A third of the survey participants admitted to the analysts that if they purchase new games in the next 12 months, they would prefer titles similar to those they are currently playing. Another 19% of respondents intend to buy new installments of their favorite series, while 13% plan to continue playing games they already have in their library.
According to Bain & Company, only 21% of gamers they surveyed are willing to try something entirely new to them.
Nevertheless, analysts noted gamers' dissatisfaction with the abundance of formulaic and uninspired games on the market.
"No one is satisfied with a game that is stuck in a borderline state: it is too typical to offer the depth most gamers want, too cautious to provide the novelty others are chasing, and too superficial to reclaim time from the giants," the research states.
The survey by Bain & Company also touched on the topic of artificial intelligence. According to the analysts' observations, over the past year, 42% of gamers have improved their attitude toward the use of AI in game development, while only 6% have viewed it more negatively. The most significant positive change was observed among respondents aged 13-17 and 30-39, with 59% and 51% of them, respectively, viewing AI more positively.
