AI startup Reforged Labs has ceased operations, citing the closure of the market gap they were targeting

Reforged Labs, a company specializing in generative AI, is concluding its operations after three years, citing difficulties in scaling outside the gaming industry.
Established in 2023, Reforged Labs was known for its AI-driven solutions aimed at enhancing "creative strategy and performance marketing" within the mobile gaming realm.
The company's clientele featured major players like Supercell, King, Ubisoft, Playtika, and Scopely, and it employed 17 staff members in Vietnam and the United States.
Robert Huynh, co-founder and CEO, stated, "For three years, our focus was on creating AI tools for mobile game studios, with an annual ad expenditure exceeding $500 million. However, the company was not evolving into what we had envisioned."
Huynh highlighted the limited market scale, indicating that although some contracts reached six figures, few studios reached this level. Attempts to diversify beyond gaming were not sufficiently successful.
He noted that with the recent advancements in AI, significant parts of their product were revamped and predicted that their customers, who are among the most advanced in the gaming sector, could soon develop similar capabilities independently.
Huynh concluded by stating, "The market gap we were addressing is narrowing. While the business could persist on a smaller scale, I'd prefer a definitive closure over a gradual decline."
Back in 2024, Reforged Labs secured $3.9 million in a seed funding round spearheaded by DCM, a venture capital firm.
Other investors included Y Combinator, Epakon Capital, Goodwater Capital, Phoenix Fund, and Asymmetry Ventures, in addition to contributions from Niantic, Pocket Gems, King co-founder and former CFO Sebastian Knutsson, and prominent figures from Sky Mavis.
