Mobygames introduces a new set of professional tools designed to help users manage their career profiles, search for job opportunities, and gain insights into industry trends

MobyGames, an industry database owned by Atari, has introduced a new set of tools aimed at professionals in the gaming sector. These features include enhanced profiles for showcasing career accomplishments, as well as access to tailored job postings, insights, and industry trends. The platform is currently available in a free beta version, with some features to become subscription-based upon full release.

The initiative addresses limitations found in existing professional networks that often neglect the distinctive aspects of the gaming industry. Those behind MobyGames noted that traditional job boards fail to capture the personalized intelligence crucial for career development within gaming.

Upon joining, users can authenticate their profiles on MobyGames, adding comprehensive details about their roles and credited projects. This part of the service remains complimentary. The platform allows individuals to share specific contributions they've made, such as art creation, distribution support, or voice acting roles, while also affiliating their contributions with respective companies.

The advanced "professional" subscription offers additional features, including tools to visualize one's gaming network, track game launches, and receive updates from industry connections. It also provides personalized job listings, insights into compensation ranges, and details about potential employers. This tier will be free during the beta stage, expected to continue until August, after which a monthly fee of $14.99 (or $11.99 with an annual plan) will be required, according to Product Manager Reece Denzel, speaking to GamesIndustry.biz. Feedback from users during the beta will be actively sought.

Beyond these tools, MobyGames has previously offered paid "plus" tiers that grant hobbyists additional data access, rebranded from MobyPro last December. While similar in concept to IMDBPro, MobyGames' features are custom-built to meet the specific demands of the gaming industry. Denzel notes that MobyGames offers more value through its comprehensive updates on industry developments and job opportunities.

According to a company press release, MobyGames is recognized as the most extensive and well-organized archive of game development credits, with records on over 350,000 games and add-ons, 1.3 million individuals, and 50,000 companies.

Andreas Deptolla, President of Atari Europe, mentioned that existing career management platforms often fail the gaming community. MobyGames combines its detailed credit documentation with a specialized professional network, offering a unique solution for industry practitioners.

Atari acquired MobyGames from Antstream for $1.5 million in 2022. Originally established in 1999, the site was later bought by GameFly in 2010, which led to an undesired redesign that was reversed after Blue Flame Labs, with Simon Carless of GDC, took ownership in 2013.
