Sony has announced increases in PlayStation Plus subscription prices, citing "ongoing market conditions" as the reason for the change

Sony has announced increases in its PlayStation Plus subscription costs. The changes, effective from May 20, will impact new subscribers in certain regions due to challenging market conditions.

Details shared on X/Twitter state that the Essential tier will now require $10.99 USD (€9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP) per month, rising from $9.99. A subscription for three months will cost $27.99 USD (€27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP), up from $24.99.

Current subscribers will not be affected by these price adjustments unless there are changes to or lapses in their existing plans, with the exception of those in Turkey and India. It's yet to be clarified which specific regions are involved.

While the announcement highlighted the Essential tier, it remains uncertain if other tiers will see similar pricing adjustments. PlayStation has been contacted by GamesIndustry.biz for further information.

This adjustment follows earlier price increases for Sony products, including a rise in PS5 hardware prices in the US and upcoming changes expected in South Korea and Southeast Asia.

Conversely, Xbox recently revealed it would lower the cost of its premium Game Pass subscription, excluding new Call of Duty game launches from immediate availability, following feedback about high costs from Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma.

Nevertheless, this adjustment does not completely overturn a substantial 50% price increase from October 2025, where the subscription was previously priced at $19.99 on console and $11.99 on PC.
