Sony has announced an increase in the prices for PlayStation Plus, citing "ongoing market conditions" as the reason for the adjustment
Sony has officially announced changes to the pricing of its PlayStation Plus (PS+) subscription service, which start affecting new customers from May 20. This adjustment comes in response to "ongoing market conditions" and will be applicable in select areas.
As detailed in a Twitter post, the Essential tier now costs $10.99 USD (€9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP) for a one-month subscription, rising from the previous $9.99. For three months, the price has increased to $27.99 USD (€27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP), up from $24.99.
The price modifications do not affect current subscribers, except in Turkey and India, unless there's a change or lapse in their existing subscription. However, the specific regions where these changes apply have not been entirely disclosed.
The posted prices specifically mention the Essential tier, leaving it uncertain whether other tiers will be affected. GamesIndustry.biz is seeking further clarification from PlayStation.
This price adjustment reflects previous increases in Sony's range, such as the PS5 hardware prices in the US and in Southeast Asia.
Recently, Xbox reduced the cost of its top-tier Game Pass subscription, no longer offering new Call of Duty releases on the launch day. This shift followed a statement from Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma, who indicated that the service had "become too expensive for players."
Nonetheless, the reduction did not undo the 50% price hike Microsoft implemented in October 2025, which saw the service's cost increase from its original $19.99 on console and $11.99 on PC.
