Sensor Tower announced the acquisition of AppMagic

The analytics company Sensor Tower has unexpectedly acquired another competing gaming analytics service. AppMagic is now part of their organization.

The purchase amount and full terms have not been disclosed.

According to Sensor Tower's CEO Oliver Yeh, the company plans to "integrate the teams, technologies, and products" of both parties. After this, AppMagic will become one of the tools for small and medium businesses in Sensor Tower's portfolio.

As AppMagic anticipates, the collaboration with Sensor Tower will allow the service to enhance its analytics.

"Joining Sensor Tower brings AppMagic's capabilities for users to a new level. Our clients will gain access to deeper data and achieve a more comprehensive understanding of the market than ever before. For anyone looking to understand where the market is heading and how to grow within it, this is an important step forward," stated AppMagic founder and CEO Maxim Samorukov.

This is not the first such deal for Sensor Tower. In recent years, the company has actively acquired competitors. For example, in the spring of 2024, it became the owner of data.ai, specializing in mobile analytics, and a year later acquired the VG Insights analytics service for console and PC games. Later, Playliner also became part of Sensor Tower.

AppMagic entered the market in 2016 and initially operated under the name DataMagic. For a long time, the service focused solely on analytics for mobile games and applications, but last year it expanded its functionality to include information on Steam games. It is noteworthy that AppMagic is a portfolio company of GEM Capital. Its sale to Sensor Tower marked the first exit for GEM II, the second fund of GEM Capital, launched in 2023. The exit occurred less than three years after the announcement.
