These figures were shared by the company DDoS-Guard in a recent report. According to their observations, last year the number of DDoS attacks in the gaming segment increased more than in any other sector in Russia. The second largest growth was seen in government services (+249.6%), and the third in the "internet and telecom" segment (+80.8%).
Experts explained that hackers began to attack gaming-related services more frequently partly due to the large cash flow in game development. In addition, competition among developers has intensified.
"There is fierce competition for new game servers, and DDoS attacks often act as a weapon to draw the audience away," noted DDoS-Guard.
In a conversation with the newspaper "RBC," representatives of the publisher Astrum Entertainment confirmed the growth in the number of DDoS attacks. They reported that at least their services were attacked 2.5 times more often in 2025 than in 2024. In most cases, this did not affect the games' operation, but it still led to increased financial and other costs. Representatives of "EdgeCenter," who protect projects for "Lesta Games," also informed "RBC" about the intensifying actions of hackers. According to them, DDoS attacks have become more powerful and sophisticated. Now, instead of one prolonged attack, malicious actors prefer to execute many short ones, complicating the defense against them.
