According to Newzoo, the global gaming market is anticipated to grow to $197 billion by 2025, surpassing earlier forecasts
Projections now indicate that the worldwide gaming industry will ascend by 7.5%, reaching $197 billion in 2025, surpassing previous forecasts issued by Newzoo.
In advance of official financial reports detailing performance from January through November, the research firm cited a primarily unexpected upturn in PC and mobile platforms as key contributors.
The PC market is anticipated to experience a 10.4% increase, totaling $43 billion, due to a robust lineup of high-quality game releases surpassing last year's offerings.
Mobile gaming is projected to generate $108 billion, a 7.7% year-on-year rise, continuing a two-year growth trend bolstered by new releases and consistently popular titles.
As predicted in September, Newzoo estimated that the gaming market would attain $188.8 billion, driven by the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, increased software prices, and major console launches.
Current estimates suggest console revenue growth will be more modest, climbing by 4.2% to reach $45 billion.
Newzoo also cataloged the top-grossing games of 2025 by revenue and player engagement.
On PCs, Battlefield 6 led in revenue, followed by Schedule 1 and Arc Raiders, with premium games and shooters dominating the top spots.
Across consoles, including PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, EA Sports FC 26 and NBA 2K26 topped the list, with Battlefield 6 ranked third.
Assassin's Creed Shadows was the first non-sports game to appear on the console list at position six, while Ghost of Yōtei landed at eight, trailed by Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Borderlands 4.
Electronic Arts boasted four placements in the Top 10, credited to a strategic schedule of premium releases and a consistent timeline for sports game launches.
Newzoo emphasized that the position of Pokémon Legends: Z-A demonstrated the ongoing significance of platform exclusivity, primarily as it sold only on Switch consoles, with roughly half of its sales from the Switch 2.
Newzoo offered a spotlight on Sandfall Interactive's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which continues to influence the gaming industry following its victory at The Game Awards.
The game's monthly user distribution was 43% on Xbox, 42% on PlayStation, and 15% on PC.
Launched in April as a Day One title on Xbox Game Pass, Clair Obscur has emerged as 2025's leading third-party title on the platform.
This turn-based RPG currently boasts a lifetime user base of 5.13 million players and 643,000 monthly active users on consoles, as reported by Newzoo's Game Performance Monitor.
Newzoo remarked that the game's position in engagement rankings continued to rise months post-launch, underscoring the impact of word-of-mouth and word-of-mouth strategies on sustained growth.
In reviewing engagement across all platforms, the only 2025 release in the Top 10 was Landfall Games and Aggro Crab's Peak, which expanded its influence significantly through a free-to-play release.
