According to analysts, Of Ash and Steel grossed $702,000 on Steam in its first five days. Note that this is the gross revenue, from which platform fees and taxes are yet to be deducted, so the developers received less in hand.
Analysts estimate that Of Ash and Steel sold 36,500 copies on Steam.
However, the game's launch was met with mixed reactions. Of Ash and Steel debuted on Steam with "very positive" reviews, but its rating has since dropped to "mixed." At the time of this article's writing, it was praised in 66% of 1,600 reviews. The game was mainly criticized for its abundance of bugs and overall poor technical performance. Gamers also questioned the design of certain locations. Nonetheless, many appreciated the atmosphere of Of Ash and Steel, which was inspired by projects from the studio Piranha Bytes.
As for online engagement, Of Ash and Steel attracted 5,600 concurrent players at its peak on Steam. This ranks as the seventh highest among tinyBuild's published projects.
Currently, Of Ash and Steel is available only on PC via Steam and GOG, but the Fire & Frost studio doesn't rule out a future release on consoles.
