Games featuring AI-generated content earned $660 million on Steam, according to analytics

Meanwhile, the proportion of such games on Steam has increased to 8%. Now there are 10,258 of them.

These figures were shared by Ichiro Lambe from Totally Human Media, who was previously involved in the creation of the "Steam Labs." He immediately noted that his calculations only considered games with the AI Content Disclosed tag, suggesting that the actual number of AI content titles might be higher. Consequently, their total revenue might also be greater.

As Lambe pointed out, the bulk of the games with AI content he analyzed earned less than $10,000 on Steam. According to his estimates, 702 games surpassed this threshold. Among them, only 45 projects managed to boast earnings of over a million dollars.

According to Lambe, the top 12 highest-grossing games with the AI Content Disclosed tag include: Stellaris, My Summer Car, Supermarket Simulator, The Outlast Trials, Emotional Anti-Fraud Simulator (情感反诈模拟器), The Long Drive, inZOI, VTOL VR, Infection Free Zone, Bellwright, X4: Foundations, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Each of these games has made eight-figure earnings.

The use of generative artificial intelligence in games continues to spark debates among both gamers and developers. For instance, recent controversies have arisen online over AI in ARC Riders, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and Anno 117: Pax Romana. At the beginning of the month, amid such discussions, the CEO of Nexon, Lee Jung-hun, claimed that every gaming company is now employing AI. However, he was subsequently criticized by several indie studios who disagreed with this assertion.
