Nintendo earned $2.27 billion from mobile games — analysis
Journalists from MobileGamer and The Game Business have reported on how Nintendo is faring in the mobile sector and the metrics of its games. For their analysis, they referred to data from Sensor Tower.
Fire Emblem Heroes
It is reported that to date, Nintendo's mobile games have generated a total of $2.27 billion and garnered 816 million downloads. Japan has been the most lucrative market, contributing 46% of the revenue. However, in terms of downloads, the United States led with 20%.
Notably, a lion's share of the total revenue came from just one game — Fire Emblem Heroes, released in 2017. It earned $1.19 billion, surpassing all other Nintendo mobile titles combined.
Here's the full ranking of Nintendo's highest-grossing mobile games:
1. Fire Emblem Heroes — $1.193 billion (19 million downloads);
2. Mario Kart Tour — $365.6 million (290.7 million downloads);
3. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp — $349.8 million (75.5 million downloads);
4. Dragalia Lost — $167.1 million (4.3 million downloads);
5. Super Mario Run — $96.6 million (384.4 million downloads);
6. Pikmin Bloom — $84.8 million (7.5 million downloads);
7. Dr. Mario World — $13.8 million (13.4 million downloads);
8. Miitomo — $3.7 million (20.8 million downloads);
9. Fire Emblem Shadows — $200,000 (800,000 downloads).
Although the mobile segment has brought Nintendo considerable revenue, the company remains relatively inactive in this area. MobileGamer suggests this might partly be due to the company's reluctance to depend on Apple and Google, who control the key stores. Additionally, Nintendo profits significantly from its consoles, so there is little need to expand its mobile ventures.
