Study: Two-thirds of mobile developers are concerned about the Apple and Google duopoly in the app store market
Analysts from Atomik Research studied the situation in the mobile app store market. They surveyed over 300 senior-level employees from major American and British companies developing mobile games.

- 87% of the developers surveyed said that at least three-quarters of their games' revenue comes from the App Store and Google Play.
- 67% of respondents admitted they are concerned about the dominance of the App Store and Google Play in the market.
- The majority of developers cited high commissions as the main issue with the App Store and Google Play, according to 51% of those surveyed. Additionally, top concerns include the need for significant marketing and user acquisition expenses (46%), strict App Store policies (44%), and challenges with app discoverability (43%).
- 74% of developers reported that their studios plan to distribute games in alternative stores for at least the next five years. The specific stores were not mentioned in the study.
- 73% of developers believe that after launching in alternative stores, their revenue could increase by double digits.
