By 2025, the worldwide gaming industry is anticipated to hit $188.8 billion, marking a 3.4% growth year-over-year as per the recent Newzoo report.

The console segment is expected to spearhead this expansion with revenues projected to climb 5.5% to $45.9 billion. This boost is largely attributed to the anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2, coupled with "increased software costs and significant game launches," according to Newzoo.

While mobile gaming is set to retain the largest revenue portion, it is projected to contribute $103 billion to overall figures.

Nonetheless, challenges like discoverability could hinder progress in this sector, as "app stores and web platforms are saturated with new titles," Newzoo warns.

In terms of PC gaming, revenue is expected to grow by 2.5% year-on-year, reaching $39.9 billion, which constitutes 21% of the total market.

Significant releases in the first half of the year, such as Monster Hunter Wilds, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, are cited as key contributors to 2025's revenue increase.

Globally, the gaming population is set to expand to 3.6 billion players this year, reflecting a 4.4% year-on-year rise. Mobile gaming is expected to see player numbers grow to 3 billion, an increase of 4.5% compared to the previous year.

On other platforms, the console player base is predicted to grow by 2.5%, reaching 645 million users, despite being the "slowest expanding platform," while PC gaming audiences are anticipated to rise 3.1% to 936 million players.

Additionally, Newzoo forecasts that the total number of players who spend money on gaming will reach 1.6 billion, which is 44% of all players, with an average expenditure of $119.7 per individual.
