Newzoo: In 2025, more than half of the gaming market's revenue will come from two countries — China and the United States

The analytics company Newzoo has released a forecast for the global video game market in 2025. Here are the key points:

  • According to analysts, the video game market’s revenue in 2025 will reach $188.8 billion. This represents a 3.4% increase from 2024.
  • All segments are expected to show growth, with the most significant increase in revenue coming from console games—up 5.5% to $45.9 billion. This boost can be attributed to the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. Mobile gaming revenue will grow by 2.9% to $103 billion, and PC gaming revenue will rise by 2.8% to $39.9 billion.

  • The most profitable genre on consoles will be sports games ($10.6 billion, +3.5%). On PC, shooters will lead ($9 billion, -5%), while on mobile devices, RPGs will be on top ($18.7 billion, -14.7%).
  • The video game market will generate the most revenue in China ($49.8 billion) and the USA ($49.6 billion).
  • Looking at a broader scale, the Asia-Pacific region will again be the largest market for gaming in 2025. It alone will contribute $87.6 billion (+2.3%). Following are North America ($52.7 billion, +4.2%), Europe ($33.1 billion, +3.6%), Latin America ($8.3 billion, +6.4%), and the Middle East and Africa ($7.1 billion, +7.5%).

  • By the end of the year, the number of gamers worldwide is expected to reach 3.57 billion, which is 4.4% more than in 2024. Consequently, 61.5% of the global population with internet access will be playing video games.

  • Notably, 56% of gamers will not spend money on games.
  • Annual spending on games per paying gamer will average $119.7.
  • Analysts also predict that by 2028, the video game market’s revenue will grow to $206.5 billion, with the number of gamers reaching 3.98 billion.
