Unknown Worlds has filed a lawsuit against former executives over the theft of confidential data and sabotage of development efforts
The scandal surrounding the three dismissed executives of the studio Unknown Worlds, which is working on Subnautica 2, continues to unfold. The studio filed a lawsuit against them, presenting several allegations.
Some of the complaints in the Unknown Worlds lawsuit essentially repeat the statements of its parent company KRAFTON.
For instance, the studio also claims that Charlie Cleveland, Ted Gill, and Max McGuire lost interest in Subnautica 2 over time and shifted their focus to personal projects. As a result, the development was significantly delayed, and the game was not ready for release. Nevertheless, according to Unknown Worlds, the executives insisted on releasing the project in its incomplete state, hoping to receive bonuses from KRAFTON amounting to $250 million.
Among the new allegations, Unknown Worlds claimed that upon learning of plans to fire them, the executives downloaded 172,000 files containing the studio’s confidential information. Specifically, they appropriated files related to IP, business records, and work correspondence.
Unknown Worlds wants the court to compel the developers to return these files and prohibit them from disclosing its trade secrets. Furthermore, it seeks to gain “all rights, claims, and interests” in the intellectual property created by the former executives during their time at the studio, including game scripts, code, design documents, and much more. Unknown Worlds also demands compensation for the damage caused by the managers’ actions.
