According to recent data, Assassin's Creed Shadows has emerged as the best-selling new title in Europe to date

According to the latest statistics from GSD, "Assassin's Creed Shadows" has emerged as the top-selling new release in Europe this year. In a report by The Games Business, Ubisoft's fresh offering surpassed other notable titles such as "Monster Hunter Wilds," "Split Fiction," and "Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2."
Despite "Assassin's Creed Shadows" dominating new releases, "Split Fiction" has gained recognition as the highest-selling IP of 2025, securing the sixth spot on the Top 20 chart.
The data were compiled by GSD up to July 28, 2025, with the exception of "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33," as its sales figures are not available from the publisher. Similarly, Nintendo doesn't disclose its digital sales data.
In the broader ranking, "Monster Hunter Wilds" achieved the seventh position, "Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2" secured the tenth, "The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered" was placed at eleventh, and "Elden Ring Nightrein" took the thirteenth spot.
While "Assassin's Creed Shadows" stood out among new releases, "EA Sports FC 25" claimed the overall top position since its launch last September.
So far this year, a total of 71 million games for PC and console have been sold across Europe, marking a 6% decrease compared to the previous year, per GSD analyst Sam Naji. This number includes 52 million digital sales (a 3% decline) and 19.7 million physical copies (an 9% decrease).
Within the first 19 weeks of 2025, expenditure on games has seen a 2% drop to €1.33 billion, with unit sales down 9%. This decline has been attributed to an 8% increase in the average game price. Gamers were expending, on average, €29 per title, compared to €27 for the prior year.
Digital game spending has increased by 8%, corresponding with a 15% rise in their average price from €22 to €29, even as unit sales dipped by 6%. Physical game revenue experienced a 16% decrease, with a further reduction in unit sales by 17%, while the average price rose slightly by 2%, moving from €39 to €40.
