According to recent data, Assassin's Creed Shadows has become the best-selling new release in Europe to date

According to data provided by GSD, "Assassin's Creed Shadows" has emerged as the top-selling new game in Europe for this year. Ubisoft's recent release has outperformed competitors like "Monster Hunter Wilds," "Split Fiction," and "Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2."
The report from The Games Business reveals that "Split Fiction" ranks as the most successful IP of 2025 so far, placing sixth in the Top 20 list.
GSD's analysis extends up to July 28, 2025, though it does not account for sales figures from "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" due to the publisher's privacy policies regarding sales data. Similarly, Nintendo does not disclose digital sales information.
In the broader rankings, "Monster Hunter Wilds" holds the seventh position, while "Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2" is tenth. Following these, "The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered" is eleventh and "Elden Ring: Nightrein" is thirteenth.
Despite "AC Shadows" leading among newcomers, "EA Sport FC 25" has maintained the number one spot since its release last September.
GSD analyst Sam Naji notes a decrease in games sales across Europe, with 71 million PC and console games sold this year—a 6% drop from the previous year. This encompasses 52 million digital and 19.7 million physical games, reflecting declines of 3% and 9%, respectively.
The first 19 weeks of 2025 saw a 2% reduction in game spending, dropping to €1.33 billion, along with a 9% decrease in unit sales. The fall is attributed to an 8% rise in average game prices, with the average cost per game increasing from €27 to €29.
Digital games saw an 8% increase in revenue contrasting with a 6% reduction in unit sales, primarily due to a 15% hike in average digital game prices, rising from €22 to €29.
Conversely, physical game spending fell by 16%, with a parallel 17% decline in sales volumes. However, prices for physical games have seen a slight uptick of 2%, moving from €39 to €40 compared to the same timeframe last year.
