Study: One in Five New Releases on Steam in 2025 Created with Generative AI

More and more games in Steam are being created by developers who utilize artificial intelligence during development, reports Ichiro Lambe, head of Totally Human Media and one of the creators of the "Steam Labs." He noted that their share among new releases in 2025 was about 20%.

While counting, Lambe only included games with the AI Content Disclosed tag. He emphasized that not all developers use it, so the actual percentage could be higher.

As of mid-July 2025, there are 7,818 games with that tag available on Steam — that's 7% of the store's catalog over time. Notably, in April 2024, only around a thousand games had the AI content tag. It's important to remember that the Steam team introduced it only in January of that year.

According to Lambe, AI is primarily used for creating art, sound, text, and code. But recently, it is increasingly being used to add content that is dynamically generated during gameplay. For instance, this approach was taken by the developers of inZOI, Nyric, Never Ending Dungeon, and AI Roguelite.
