Newzoo: In 2024, the global video game market generated $182.7 billion, which is below projections

Last year, the analytics company Newzoo published revenue forecasts for the gaming market in 2024 multiple times. None of them came true — the final figures were lower.

Black Myth: Wukong

  • According to the current data from Newzoo, the global video game market earned $182.7 billion in 2024 (+3.2% compared to 2023). Initially, the company predicted revenues of $189.3 billion and later revised it to $187.7 billion.
  • Mobile games became the largest market segment — $100.3 billion (+5.5%). They were followed by console games ($43.5 billion, -2.5%) and PC games ($39 billion, +4.4%).

Revenue distribution by platforms

  • 47% of the market's revenue came from the Asia-Pacific region. North America took the second spot with 28%.
  • Newzoo noted that the release of Black Myth: Wukong and the return of Blizzard games to China increased the activity of Chinese gamers, which partly contributed to the market's growth.

Revenue breakdown by regions

  • Newzoo expects the market revenue to reach $188.9 billion in 2025, $196.2 billion in 2026, and $201.4 billion in 2027.
