Analytics: Third-party games sell significantly worse on Nintendo Switch 2 compared to Nintendo's own games
The analytics companies Circana and NielsenIQ shared with The Game Business portal about the sales of third-party games on the Nintendo Switch 2 in the US and the UK. Below are some figures.
Cyberpunk 2077
- In the US, projects not from Nintendo accounted for only 38% of physical game copies sold on the Switch 2 during the week following the console’s release. In the UK, it was 52%.
- However, the launch of the first Switch saw worse figures. At that time, third-party games accounted for 18% of sales in the US and 11% in the UK.
- Cyberpunk 2077 is the best-selling third-party game on the Switch 2. SEGA ranks as the third-largest publisher.
- Additionally, Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad noted that being the "best-selling third-party game" does not make Cyberpunk 2077’s sales on the Switch 2 good. In the UK, the CD PROJEKT game was responsible for just 5% of copies sold on the console. Other projects performed even worse.
- One publisher told The Game Business that the sales of third-party games on the Switch 2 were "below the worst estimates."
