Study: 87.32% of representatives in the Russian gaming industry have never received government support
Russian gaming companies are in need of state support, but only a small number have managed to obtain it. This conclusion was reached by the specialized association APRIORI, the Institute for Internet Development (IID), and the legal company “EBR” based on the results of a survey conducted in March.
Over 200 representatives of the Russian gaming industry participated in the survey.
Below are the main findings of the study.
- 88.29% of respondents reported that they had attempted to secure state support at least once.
- 12.69% of all respondents ultimately succeeded in obtaining state support.
- Typically, companies received grants (53.85%), tax benefits (50%), accelerations (11.54%), and assistance with promotion (7.69%).
- One of the main problems cited by respondents in obtaining state support was the very strict requirements imposed. This was complained about by 58% of individuals.
- Other top issues included difficulties with document processing (57%), lack of transparency (44.39%), insufficient information about state support measures (37%), and lack of expert assistance with applications (32.2%).
- 59% of respondents stated that they would like to receive government support for exporting their games to other countries. For example, compensation for expenses on overseas promotion or assistance in establishing connections with partners. Many also expressed a desire for changes in Russian laws that would simplify working abroad.
At the end of the study, the authors attached a comprehensive description of current state support measures for gaming companies in Russia and around the world. You can view the list here.
