Global spending in mobile games reached $41 billion in first half of 2022, with Google Play down almost 15% YoY

Global player spending in mobile games has reached $41.2 billion in the first half of 2022, according to Sensor Tower. Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile, the two highest grossing mobile titles, have generated over $1 billion each.

  • Worldwide player spending fell 6.6% year-over-year compared to $44.1 billion in the first half of 2021.
  • iOS spending fell 0.8% year-over-year to $25.6 billion, with Google Play down 14.8% to $15.6 billion.
  • Honor of Kings once again became the highest grossing mobile game worldwide with $1.4 billion in player spending, followed by PUBG Mobile ($1.1 billion).
  • Other titles in the top 5 include Genshin Impact ($986.2 million), Candy Crush Saga ($593.5 million), and Roblox ($576.5 million).

  • Mobile games generated 28.1 billion downloads in the first half of 2022, up 0.4% year-over-year.
  • Subway Surfers was the number one game by downloads, reaching 148.7 million installs.
  • It is followed by Free Fire (147.2 million), Ludo King (87.7 million), Roblox (85.8 million), and Candy Crush Saga (82.8 million).
