Sensor Tower has acquired VG Insights, an analytics service for console and PC games

The consolidation in the gaming analytics market continues. Sensor Tower has announced the acquisition of the Video Game Insights (VG Insights) platform.

The financial terms and other details of the deal have not been disclosed.

VG Insights initially specialized in Steam game analytics, providing revenue estimates and wishlist numbers, as well as other platform data. This year, the service also began analyzing metrics for console titles on PlayStation and Xbox.

The acquisition of VG Insights will enable Sensor Tower to extend its platform's capabilities beyond the mobile market. The primary goal of the deal is to strengthen the company's position in the gaming analytics market.

This is Sensor Tower's third public M&A deal. In 2021, the company acquired the marketing platform Pathmatics, and last year, it purchased the competing service data.ai (resulting in the layoff of nearly half the staff). According to analyst Joost van Dreunen, the deal with data.ai may have cost Sensor Tower $300 million.
