Analysts: Over three years, Valve has sold around 4 million Steam Decks, capturing the portable PC market
From 2022 to 2024, the largest handheld gaming PCs were sold in a total volume of 6 million units, reports The Verge, citing a study by IDC. The best-selling item was the Steam Deck.
Steam Deck
According to IDC estimates, by the end of 2024, total sales of the Steam Deck reached 3.7 million units. By February 2025, they might have surpassed 4 million units, but analysts are not ready to state an exact figure yet.
Cumulative sales of handheld PCs by year:
- 2022 — 1.62 million units (all credited to the Steam Deck);
- 2023 — 2.86 million units (over 50% attributed to the Steam Deck);
- 2024 — 1.48 million units (48% attributed to the Steam Deck).
Analysts predict that in 2025, sales of handheld PCs will increase by 29.7% to 1.92 million units.
It is worth noting: in their statistics, IDC analysts considered the sales of only four devices: Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, and MSI Claw. Meanwhile, sales of handheld PCs like GPD, Ayaneo, and OneXPlayer were not reflected in the data. However, The Verge suggests that their shipments were relatively small.
