56% of developers believe that the VR gaming market is either declining or stagnating
Many developers view the current state of the gaming VR market skeptically. This conclusion can be drawn by reviewing the results of The Game Developer Collective's research.
38% of surveyed developers stated that the VR gaming market is stagnating. Another 18% even remarked that it is declining. However, 23% noted that it is showing slight growth. There was also 1% of optimists who claimed that the market is experiencing excellent growth.
In this context, it's not surprising that 53% of respondents mentioned that their company would never undertake the creation of VR games. Only 7% of developers said they might engage in such projects within a year or two.
88% of developers identified the "size of the audience and market volume" as the main problem of the VR gaming market. Other factors include the difficulty of creating a VR experience that is comfortable (38%) and the lack of funding (35%).
Amusingly, 72% of respondents said they do not consider the introduction of Apple Vision Pro to be an important event for the VR market. According to the majority, this device will have no impact on the future of VR games.
