The Chinese games industry generated more than $12 billion in the first quarter of 2022. The market continues to grow, with mobile accounting for the vast majority of total revenues.

  • The Chinese market generated ¥79.4 billion ($12.1 billion) in the first quarter of 2022, which is up 3.17% year-over-year.
  • While revenues are still getting bigger, growth slowed down when compared to the first quarter of the last year.
  • Mobile games reached ¥60.4 billion ($9.2 billion) in revenue in Q1 2022, which is up 2.72% year-over-year.
  • The long-lasting success of titles like Genshin Impact and Fantasy Westward Journey 3D was the main driver for overall growth.
  • Tencent-developed Return to Empire, which is a mobile version of Age of Empireslaunched in China last month, became the second best-selling new game in Q1 2022. It generated over ¥300 million ($45.7 million) during this period.
  • Civilization and Conquest took the first spot, reaching over ¥500 million ($76.2 million) in revenue in the first quarter of 2022.
