NPD: US consumers spent almost $14 billion on games, hardware, and accessories in Q1 2022
The NPD Group has released a new report on the best-selling video games, consoles, and accessories of March and the first quarter of 2022. Overall, the US consumer spending reached almost $14 billion during the last three months.
On April 25, NPD Group video game industry advisor Mat Piscatella shared the data on Twitter.
- Consumers spent $4.9 billion on video games, hardware, and accessories last month, which is down 15% year-over-year.
- During the first quarter (ending March 31, 2022), consumer spending decreased by 8% to $13.9 billion.

- Xbox Series X|S became the best-selling console of both last month and the first quarter, with Nintendo Switch leading in unit sales.
- Elden Ring remains the best-selling video game of the year so far. When looking at the 12-month span, it holds second place, only behind Call of Duty: Vanguard.
- Gran Turismo 7, which was the second best-selling game of March 2022, had the biggest dollar sales launch in the series’ history.

- Consumer spending on mobile titles fell 15% year-over-year in March 2022 due to almost a 25% decline for Google Play games revenue.
- Candy Crush Saga, Roblox, Coin Master, Free Fire, and Genshin Impact were among the top-10 highest-grossing mobile games of March 2022.
