Game Freak has verified that employee information was compromised in a recent data breach
In August 2024, Game Freak experienced a security breach that resulted in the exposure of employee information, the company has announced.
According to a statement shared by the firm, and translated by Nintendo Everything, unauthorized access impacted data involving 2,606 current, past, and contract employees.
The statement mentioned, "Game Freak discovered that personal information of employees and others was leaked in connection with unauthorized access to our server by a third party. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and concern caused to all those involved."
The company emphasized, "We have already rebuilt and inspected the server, and will strive to prevent recurrence by further strengthening our security measures."
Among the leaked materials were reportedly codenames for Switch 2, the next generation of Pokémon titles, as well as an unannounced project, as stated by Nintendo Life.
Additionally, the breach allegedly included game source code for Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, summaries of meetings, and details about forthcoming shows and films.
