Study: 53% of gamers prefer single-player games

The company MIDiA Research attempted to determine which gaming modes are most popular. To find out, they surveyed over 9,000 people from the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Poland, and several other countries.

Below are some findings from the study.

  • More than half of the respondents (53%) told MIDiA Research that they usually prefer single-player games.
  • The older the gamer, the more likely they are to play single-player games. For example, among gamers aged 16-19, 30% choose such titles, whereas among those aged 35-44, that number rises to 49%. Additionally, 74% of gamers aged 55 and older prefer single-player projects.
  • The second most popular mode in games is online PvP. The largest share of its fans is among gamers aged 20-24 — 43%.
  • Online PvP is also the most sought-after mode among gamers aged 16-19, with 40% of respondents in this age group favoring it.
  • Among young people, the highest percentage of fans prefer local co-op mode in games. This mode is favored by 28% of gamers aged 16-19, 24% of gamers aged 25-34, and 22% of gamers aged 20-24.
  • Only 6% of surveyed gamers aged 55 and older are fans of games with PvE mode. Most often, these projects are chosen by gamers aged 25-34 (21%).
