According to Niko's 2024 India Gamer Market Report, 65.4% of gamers are involved in esports activities

The 2024 India Gamer Behavior and Market Insights Report by Niko indicates a significant increase in spending among PC gamers, with more than 75% claiming higher expenditure on PC gaming in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in the prior year.

Esports are popular, with 65.4% of respondents engaging through gaming, viewing, or competing, and 57.2% discovering new games via streamers and influencers.

The report delves into areas like "gamer behavior, spending, hours played, preferred platforms, esports, and M&A." It reveals that 57% of mobile gamers in India have enjoyed a battle royale game in the last three months, with BGMI and Free Fire being the top choices.

60% of mobile game spenders have invested in a battle pass or season pass. Notably, female gamers who purchase premium games and products outspend their male counterparts by 8.5%.

Niko anticipates that higher disposable incomes, alongside the rise of premium smartphones and mobile-centric esports tournaments, will drive "increased engagement and higher ARPU figures," with social influence and community approval greatly impacting purchasing decisions.

"In 2024, India's gaming community is more selective and prepared to invest more in gaming compared to previous years," stated Niko Partners' CEO, Lisa Hanson.

"Our 5-year CAGR projection of 11.1% for India’s gaming sector, reaching $1.4 billion by 2028, is based on trends like greater investiture in gaming, involvement with esports, private sector investment, and governmental support at various levels promoting the gaming industry."

Niko also disclosed that the East Asia games industry generated $30.1 billion in 2023 but is expected to decrease by 2.9% in 2024, totaling $29.2 billion.
