Sensor Tower: Revenue in the mobile gaming market for the second quarter of 2024 — $19.7 billion

The analytics company Sensor Tower released a report on the mobile app market for the second quarter of 2024. We selected the main findings related to games.

  • Gamers worldwide spent $19.7 billion on mobile games over the quarter, a 4% increase from last year.
  • Mobile game downloads decreased by 6.4% to 12.6 billion. This is the lowest level since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • For the first time since 2017, RPGs were not the top-grossing genre. This time, the leader was strategy games, with total quarterly revenue of $4.15 billion (+12%). RPGs dropped to second place ($4.14 billion, -15%), and puzzle games came in third ($2.89 billion, +12%).
  • The top three genres by downloads were arcades (2.19 billion downloads, -16%), puzzles (1.7 billion downloads, -10%), and simulators (1.48 billion downloads, +3%).
  • MONOPOLY GO! remained the highest-grossing game, as it did the previous quarter. Dungeon & Fighter Mobile also made it into the top 10 grossing games, climbing 421 spots in the ranking due to its release in China.
  • Garena Free Fire once again held the top spot among the most downloaded games.
