Study: In the first half of 2024, fewer Russians spent money on games, but the average transaction amount increased
The service "YuKassa" and the AGAVA studio (known for helping develop games like "Vasilisa and Baba Yaga," BUKI, and Cocktail Island) analyzed the spending of Russian gamers in games from January to June 2024. Below are the findings from the study.
- According to YuKassa's data, the overall revenue of gaming companies rose by 11% compared to last year. The exact amount is not disclosed.
- The number of in-game purchases increased by 5%. The average check grew by 6% to 520 rubles.
- The number of gamers spending money in games decreased by 21%.
- Bank cards remain the most popular payment method, accounting for 40% of purchases. However, last year their share was higher at 46%. The share of invoicing (sending an online bill for payment) increased from 25% to 28%.
- In the first half of 2024, over 60% of Russians played video games.
- AGAVA predicts that the Russian gaming market will grow by 15-20% annually in the next couple of years. Growth factors include companies adapting to the conditions post-2022, state support, the emergence of gaming associations, and the development of new technologies. Risks cited by experts include a lack of funding, increased costs for game development and marketing, as well as legal and regulatory risks.
