Analytics: 2023 has been the most eventful year for cooperative games on Steam in at least the last six years

Steam is experiencing a boom in cooperative projects, according to a report by the analytical service VG Insights. Last year, there were 799 cooperative games released on the platform, marking the highest number at least since 2018.

For comparison: in 2022, 701 cooperative games were released on Steam. In 2021, there were 650 such new releases, 647 in 2020, 388 in 2019, and 383 in 2018.

As reported by VG Insights, last year, the share of cooperative games among all releases in Steam in 2023 was 5.7%. Meanwhile, they accounted for 36% of all sales.

The median sales of cooperative games on Steam is 38,000 copies. For games without cooperation, this figure is nearly eight times lower — 5,000 copies. According to analysts, to date, 106 cooperative games have sold over 5 million copies on Steam. Among the bestsellers are those released in 2024: Palworld (19.1 million copies) and Helldivers 2 (11.4 million copies).
