The analytical company Sensor Tower published a report on the mobile app market for the first quarter of 2024. Below is a summary of the situation with games.
MONOPOLY GO!
- For the first time in two years, the quarterly revenue of the mobile game market exceeded $20 billion. It amounted to $20.3 billion, which is 2.9% more than a year ago.
- At the same time, mobile game downloads continued to decline. They fell by 6.8% to 12.8 billion.
- RPGs remain the highest-grossing genre, with quarterly earnings of $4.5 billion (-13%). The top 5 genres also include strategy games ($4 billion, +7%), casino games ($3 billion, +34%), puzzle games ($2.9 billion, +17%), and simulation games ($1.25 billion, -1%).
- MONOPOLY GO! is the revenue leader among games. From January to March 2024, it earned more than $770 million. Sensor Tower analysts note that they have never seen such high quarterly earnings. Previously, the record was held by Honor of Kings, which earned $765 million in the second quarter of 2021.
- Only seven games managed to earn more than half a billion dollars in the quarter. Among them are the already mentioned MONOPOLY GO!, as well as Honor of Kings and Royal Match.
- The most downloaded game for the quarter was Garena Free Fire. The exact number of downloads is not specified.
