Expert: the volume of the Russian gaming market is 3 billion dollars
Hicham Nouhou, head of Tencent's publishing division in Russia and the CIS, estimated the Russian gaming market at this amount. He announced his data at a meeting of the working group of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on esports.
"Turmoil"
Nuhu pointed out that the Russian gaming market is still one of the largest in the world, despite the problems it faced two years ago.
Recall that in 2022, many large gaming companies stopped working in Russia. Among them were, for example, Sony, Microsoft, CD PROJEKT, Electronic Arts, Supercell and Rovio. Also, due to the sanctions, there were difficulties with paying for games on Steam, Epic Games Store and other sites.
"There was a slight decline in 2022 due to the departure of some companies, but now there is a recovery. Russia ranks sixth in Europe and is among the top ten in the world in terms of revenue from mobile games. We understand that Russians don't spend a lot of money on games, but download a lot of apps from various stores," Nuhu said.
For comparison:
- according to MY.GAMES estimates, in 2021 the volume of the Russian gaming market amounted to 177.4 billion rubles or $ 2.4 billion based on the average annual exchange rate at that time;
- The Russian Association of Electronic Communications (RAEC) estimated that in 2022 the market volume fell by 78%. According to her, it amounted to 21.8 billion rubles. RAEC predicted that in 2023 the market volume will grow by about 7-10%.
